Ascend Services, Inc., a nonprofit organization for people with differing abilities, hosted their 5K Run, Walk & Roll on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 8 a.m. on Mariners Trail. The 2nd annual family-friendly event brings athletes of all abilities together to support and raise awareness for people with differing abilities. Running enthusiasts and walkers of all ages came out to participate. There were two 3.1 mile courses, runners headed south towards Manitowoc while walkers headed north towards Two Rivers. The run was a competitive timed event with the timing clock being sponsored by Investors Community Bank.
The weather was perfect and the beautiful Mariners Trail provided a scenic route to both runners and walkers!
Winners in each age group were recognized as part of an awards ceremony at the end of the race, along with chamber bucks drawings for the walkers. The day’s festivities also included music donated by Advanced Entertainment DJ Service and visits from Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley and Manitowoc Mayor, Justin Nickels. Snacks and water were provided by Piggly Wiggly, Kwik Trip, Big Apple Bagels and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt.
Ascend Director Deanna Genske was pleased with the turnout and stated,” This was a great opportunity for Ascend Services, formerly Holiday House, to connect with our community. I am extremely appreciative of our corporate sponsors, volunteers, event participants, Mayor Nickels, Mr. Buckley, and Ascend Services staff that assisted in bringing this event to a reality.”
Ascend is now working on planning the Run, Walk & Roll for next year.
